As my daughter begins her last year of elementary school, I’m becoming increasingly aware that we’ll soon be closing a chapter of childhood magic together. She’ll soon begin to lose interest in waiting for her invitation to magic school, writing letters to the North Pole, and looking for fairies in the back yard. This is, of course, a very natural progression. Growing up often asks us to leave make believe behind to make room for understanding and thriving in the world that is. I still can’t help but feel sadness in this transition because she’s given me a gift by helping me to see the world through innocent eyes again. Not all of us are blessed with a second chance at glimpsing the magic all around us. We all have unique life paths that carry us forward both in ways that we hope or never even imagined. But once I had my daughter in my arms, I felt a very clear knowing that I could choose to embrace magic again, if I so wished. And so I did.
I heard once that parenthood has a way of triggering the areas in our life that need healing. And through my daughter’s love, I chose to begin that healing journey. It hasn’t been easy or straightforward. But it has been very rewarding. She is the reason why I am able to reclaim my inner magic.
What do I mean by that? What is this inner magic that I keep talking about? For me, inner magic is about the child within us all who craves creativity and adventure. It’s the deep inner knowing, our internal guidance system. It’s the unique qualities and interests that make up our true selves. It’s the vulnerable piece of us that we choose to protect from a loud, chaotic world over and over again. So much so that sometimes we can’t hear it or feel it or experience anymore. All of these are to say that our inner magic is the truest version of ourselves, waiting for us to be seen again.
Reiki has been a beautiful part of helping me find healing within myself so that I could reconnect with my inner magic. My daughter may have helped me remember it was there, but Reiki was the beginning of the healing experience that allowed me to find my inner magic again. I believe that my self-Reiki sessions helped me find the stillness I needed to notice I needed to ask for help. It helped me slow down long enough to see synchronicities and glimmers in my everyday life. These quiet sessions helped me hear my own intuition again. Reiki has been an unexpected gift of self-care to myself, and I’m grateful for its presence in my life.
That gift didn’t stop with me. My daughter is already naturally empathetic, and she’s told me she hopes to become a Reiki practitioner herself one day. If that’s still true when she’s older, I would be honored to be her teacher, to pass this healing forward the way it was passed to me.
I’m not looking forward to life looking a little less magical for my daughter. The transition from childhood to adolescence is a difficult one, even for the most fortunate of us. But I hope to show her that while movie magic isn’t real, everyday magic can be. We just have to work harder to make it happen. For now, that looks like the good dishes brought out for weekend tea parties on the deck. It looks like paint-splattered afternoons together, and the holiday traditions we’ve inherited, alongside the new ones we’re building together. Small, repeatable rituals that say wonder isn’t something you outgrow, it’s something you practice. It’s an intentional effort to see the cosmic beauty of the seasonal changes and the moon phases. To see the wonder of our ability to grow and learn and change and heal. It takes intention to make our dreams come true. Our inner magic doesn’t have to fall completely to the wayside to make room for reality. There is room for a healthy balance of both.
As we embark on this new school year, it’s my fondest hope that I can give magic back to my daughter in a way that she feels empowered instead of lost. To give her room to step into this next phase of her life feeling like she can make her own magic.
Parenthood has been a major part of my life, but I recognize that this is not a universal experience. Any number of life events can signify a need for change in our life: moving to a new place, leaving a career path behind, or any given day where you wake up and feel like there’s less of a spark in the world. However it comes to you, remember that your inner magic is always there waiting for you.
If you recognize any of this in yourself, I hope you know that it’s true for you too. I hope you’re already nurturing it, but I know that sometimes it can get lost in the busyness of life. Reconnecting with it doesn’t have to be a whole ceremony. It can start small. Give yourself time to reconnect with yourself every day, if you can. Find five minutes somewhere in your day and put it on your calendar. Guard time for yourself to meditate, do breathwork, journal, or listen to an inspiring song.
If you are ready to begin your journey within, I would be honored for you to book a Reiki session today.

Meet Rin
I found Reiki when I needed it most — not as a business, but as a lifeline. It reconnected me to a sense of wonder I thought I’d outgrown, and eventually, I felt called to offer that same doorway to others.
I’m a certified Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki Master practitioner based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and I believe with my whole heart that magic is real — it’s just been waiting for you to look up.
